Our First Ever Student Apiary Tour โ A Sweet Success!

The Saving the Honeybees Initiative, proudly run by Hood Brook Honeybees, reached an exciting milestone this week.
On Tuesday, April 7th, we hosted our first-ever student tour of our small teaching apiary โ and what an incredible day it was. We were honored to welcome the Wisdom Circle Home Schoolers of Central Maine, who spent a couple of hours with us exploring the world of honeybees up close. The kids were curious, the parents were engaged, and the bees were on their best behavior.
What Students Got to Experience
During the visit, students had the chance to:
Open and explore inactive hives
See brood frames, honey stores, and hive structure in a safe, hands-on way
Learn how honeybees work together inside the colony
Break open fresh cappings and taste honey straight from the hive
The excitement on their faces said it all. For many of them, it was their first time seeing the inside of a hive โ and for us, it was the perfect way to launch our educational outreach through SavingTheHoneybees.org.
A First for the Initiative
This was the very first official tour under the Saving the Honeybees Initiative. We couldn't have asked for a better group to kick things off.
Looking Ahead
We had a blast, and we're already looking forward to welcoming more students, families, and community groups in the months ahead. It's moments like these that remind us why this mission matters โ getting people of all ages up close with honeybees builds a connection that lasts a lifetime.
