Frequently Asked Questions:

YES!  We are proudly part of Hood Brook Apiary and Learning Center.  However, while Hood Brook Apiary focuses on the Adopt-a-Hive, Sponsor Bees Programs, Services, and educational efforts, our site mainly involves the bees and our honey products.

At this point, no, we don’t.  Mainly because the shipping costs seem to outweigh the product value.  We are constantly seeking inexpensive ways to shit.  In the mean time, if you are willing to pay the shipping costs, we may be persuaded to do so.

As far as we are concerned, we don’t want to use trendy title like organic because unless you have a piece of property over 1,400 acres, the chances of your honey being totally organic is close to zero.   Do we treat with man-made chemicals?  No, we are all natural.

At the moment, all products are seasonal and while supplies last.  All Natural, Raw honey goes fast.  Currently our products include 1 and 2 pound jars of honey.  More products coming soon.

Bees?  I don’t know.  Hundreds of thousands or more!  As for hives, after a devastating 1st year in 2021-2022, we are down to 5 hives at the moment.  We are working on returning to 10 where we were before those winter losses.   Then we will grow from there.

Currently, we have 2.  Our starting point in Pittsfield where we only have 2 hives at the moment, and 3 more on The Funny Farm in Vassalboro, 40 minutes or so away. (The Funny Farm also has 3 of their own hive for a total of 6 at the farm)

At this point, no, we don’t.  We can direct you to places we have done business with and trust though.

Over at Hood Brook Apiary and Learning center, though it hasn’t started yet, we will be offering training for aspiring beekeepers.  CLICK hERE to be redirected.

At this time, no.  But we are considering it down the road.  In the Meantime though, we can direct you to some very reputable beekeeper supply shops.  Both local and national.

Our home location only has two hives at the moment.  But we’d be happy to show you around and discuss bees!  Our Funny Farm Location is more of a full working farm with cattle, goats, chickens, and, of course, Honeybees.  We are working with insurance now to try to be able to offer Farm Tours there.

A lot?  No.  But we do get stung.  More often than not it was something we did by mistake that angered them.  When they start getting angry, they will give you a warning if you pay attention.  If they feel Threatened, they don’t give much warning.

No, they don’t.  They stay within the hive and they form a big cluster.  Then they shake their bodies to increase their body temperatures of all the bees in the cluster.  This regulates the temperature in the cluster area pretty efficiently.
